Academic Grades
Grading Scales, Grade Calculations, GPA, and Honor Roll Information

Student grades are reported by semester.  Semester grades are calculated based on weighted categories of formative and summative assessments and a possible final exam. Percentages assigned to each category may vary based on course, with the potential final exam counting for no more than 20% of the overall grade.  Grades are posted and updated regularly in the Skyward online gradebook. Email notifications are sent to parents and guardians at each progress report period (3x per semester) reminding them to visit the portal.  The official transcript is based on the final semester grade for the course.

Beginning with the graduating class of 2014 and any graduating class thereafter the grade point average system is separated into three categories: General (G), Honors (H), and Advanced Placement (AP). The final grade point average is a cumulative average based upon eight semesters of high school work. To determine GPA for the class of 2014 and beyond, use the following scale:

Semester Grade Calculations

Semester grades are calculated based on weighted categories of formative and summative assessments and a possible final exam. Percentages assigned to each category may vary based on course, with the potential final exam counting for no more than 20% of the overall grade.  It is also possible that a course not use a final exam; in this case, the semester long formative and summative assessments will determine a student's grade

Grade Point Average
The entire class is ranked based on grade point average of final marks in all credit subjects with the exception of physical education, Behind the Wheel, and freshman seminar. These courses earn credit only. Students taking band or chorus less than full-time must take the class pass/fail.  Beginning with the graduating class of 2019, students will no longer receive class rank, but will continue to have a GPA.

Honor Roll
The schools recognize students for high academic achievement every quarter and semester. Specific grade point averages for those time periods must be reached in order to gain this recognition. There are two levels of honor roll that a student may achieve. They are:

Honor Roll Level Necessary
GPA
Honors 3.16 to 3.74
High Honors 3.75 and above

College Recommendation
A grade of "C" is the minimum achievement expected for college preparation.
