EXPLORE new classes and career pathways through District 155's Specialized Programming courses. State-of-the-art facilities give students hands-on experience.
These classes will give students a chance to earn certifications and enhance their skills to prepare them for a career beyond high school.
These courses are open to all qualified D155 students who may need to travel to another building to participate.
BUSINESS INCUBATOR: PRAIRIE RIDGE/CENTRAL
Designed to get students excited to become true entrepreneurs. Students create and fully develop their own product or service. Real-world business experts will serve as coaches and mentors guiding student teams through all aspects of running a business. Pitch Night will give students a true feel of pitching a startup business to actual entrepreneurs.
CULINARY ARTS COMMERCIAL: CRYSTAL LAKE SOUTH
Gain experience preparing and cooking in a commercial kitchen. Students will earn the Food Handler's Certification upon completion of Culinary Arts I Commercial. Students will earn the Food Service Manager Certification upon completion of Culinary Arts II Commercial. With a passing certification, they will also obtain 2 dual credits from MCC. Advanced Commercial is a hospitality and management course, and with a passing grade, students will also receive 3 dual credits from MCC.
INTRODUCTION TO MACHINING: McHENRY COUNTY COLLEGE
Students will have a unique opportunity to travel to McHenry County College to learn machine shop safety and the basics of operating drills, saw and cut off machines, lathes and mills. Students also will learn inspection and quality assurance functions as they relate to a machine shop.
MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT: CRYSTAL LAKE CENTRAL
Develop fully functioning apps that allow you to build the necessary skills to become part of this fast growing job market. Learn fundamental CS and programming skills aligned to CSTA standards, the Xcode programming language, and develop real-world applications. Students will create 8 working iOS applications in a development shop setting. Students will pitch an app idea to the class, evaluate feedback, develop and design their own app.
