“My dad woke me up in the morning with great news. At first, I thought my dad was just making it up, so I ran to my computer and checked for myself. When I saw my score, I could not believe it,” said Ved Patel.
Only around one-tenth of one percent of all test takers earn the top score. In the U.S. high school graduating class of 2017, only 2,760 out of more than 2 million graduates who took the ACT earned a composite score of 36.
Ved is enrolled in four Advanced Placement classes this semester, Accelerated Spanish 2 and band and involved in several extra curricular activities.
“This year, I am going to state in math team and WYSE. I participated in Scholastic Bowl and marching band.”
In 2016, Ved won the McHenry County Spelling Bee, earning a spot to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
As a sophomore, Ved says he’s leaning towards a career in medicine, but says he still has time to figure it out.
