“We’re really excited to have Tom, to have his intelligence and experience. He has a rich and deep background in education, and he believes in supporting our staff so they can continue to focus on our students,” said Dr. Johnnie Thomas, superintendent.
Tom has 17 years of education experience serving in multiple roles including athletic director, associate principal for curriculum and instruction, social studies teacher, and most recently as principal at Huntley Middle School in Dekalb. He holds a bachelor's degree from North Park University and a masters in education leadership from Aurora University. Currently, Tom is working on his doctorate in educational leadership and supervision at Loyola University.

I am committed to continuing the excellent work in all of our D155 high schools, and I will work to ensure the district’s mission to inspire, empower, and nurture, is achieved in our district," said Tom Kim, assistant superintendent of human resources.
As a middle school principal, Tom has guided the school’s vision to align with district goals, implemented processes to ensure data drives instructional practices and interventions, and provided leadership for building teams. He co-facilitated the D127 Strategic Planning Committee, coordinated an annual staffing plan, and oversaw and evaluated teachers, assistants, and department chairs as the associate principal for curriculum and instruction at Grayslake Central High School. Tom has five years of experience as an athletic director, he worked closely with coaches and booster clubs, and founded a student-athlete leadership team.
Tom Kim will officially begin his duties on July 1. Forty well-qualified candidates applied for this position. Many people were involved in the hiring process, both formally and informally, at every level of the organization.
